Nations on the Move
A Drow Invoker who loves sunlight and kittens.
Born to a Vulkoori tribe in Xen’drik, her people were wiped out in a confrontation with Khorvairi explorers. Several followers of Arawai were in the expedition, and these kind souls adopted the children of the tribe.
Syfka grew up in Breland, surrounded by Humans and their culture. Her adoptive family loved her as their only child, and raised her to worship the Sovereign Host, especially Arawai and Dol Arrah.
Perhaps the only mildly unhappy part of her life was her betrothal to her friend and neighbor, Servos. Where Syfka fully embraced life among the humans, Servos desired to be a “real Drow,” and he devoured any information he could about “his people.” Unfortunately, he was too good-natured to properly emulate his ancestors, and his attempts only annoyed his Human-raised peers. Servos would often attempt to win Syfka’s affections by giving her little gifts, such as pet spiders and scorpions, creatures that the little girl hated.
Eventually, Servos’ inept advances became too irritating, and Syfka decided to become a missionary and get out to see the world. Servos left the town not long after, and she hasn’t heard from him since. She isn’t that concerned, though, because bigger things have been happening.
On one mission trip into northern Darguun, goblins took offense to her party’s presence. The missionaries, their charges, and their hired guards all fled into an abandoned temple. While the guards tried to hold the entryway, the missionaries prayed for deliverance. Syfka, however, felt a calling from the inner sanctuary. Once inside, she discovered that the temple had once been a center of Sovereign worship, with massive statues of all nine deities. The gods spoke to her, charging her with protecting and nurturing the innocent, and with punishing those who would inflict undue violence upon their neighbors. When she emerged, she seared the goblins with burning light, scattering them and forcing a retreat. One of the guards thanked her, and introduced himself. His name was Sanden.
After making her covenant with the Sovereign Host, Syfka returned home to be trained in the use of her powers, and then went right back to missionary work. Whenever they needed guards, she would arrange to hire Sanden’s unit, whichever one he happened to be with at the time. They work well together, so when he asked her to join him for a special task, she felt that it was the Will of the Host.
Likes: Sanden, children, “the common people,” her new friends
Dislikes: spiders, scorpions, enemies of the gods, people who accidentally destroy whole towns
